While I was on vacation from work, I spent sometime at Holden Village to visit a good friend of mine, Konrad Rehn. Holden Village is a retreat center in the mountains where people from all over the world visit. (Though mostly people from the pacific northwest and the midwest). It is not accessible by road. The only way to access it is by boat by Chelan. Driving to the ferry dock was relatively straight forward. The drive was about three and a half hours northeast of Kent. To get there, I took I-90, then highway 97. I bypassed Leavenworth and Wenatchee. Though, I ended up being on the wrong side of the Columbia river for a short time before turning around. After I got on the ferry, it was pretty relaxing. The boat had a name "Lady of the Lake," and was a couple of stories high. There was new snow on the mountains and I could see the fall colors. It took at least two hours to get to Lucerne, the drop-off point to Holden Village. When we pulled into the ferry dock, I saw that lawns were really, really green. There also was a yellow school bus waiting for us. Once we got in the bus, we travelled up a narrow, winding road. It took the bus about 30 minutes to get to Holden Village. When I arrived, I was greeted by the staff, a Konrad was holding a sign with my name on it. (Just like the airport). Here are some pictures of what the village looks like and some of the hikes that I did when I was there.

All-in-All, it was a really great trip, and really easy to get to. I stayed for three days total. It is fairly busy in the summer, but was not too busy when I was there. Fall or spring seems to be a good time to visit the village.

Very cool. Looks like a fun trip. I knew Konrad was out there somewhere for awhile.
